Dorado's Pumpkin Season Runs in Two Places This October: A Farm in Maguayo and the Town Plaza

October 15, 2026

Dorado has two pumpkin festivals this fall. They are run by different people in different parts of the municipality, and they work in different ways. One is a ticketed pumpkin patch on a working farm in Barrio Maguayo. It opened October 2 and runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through November 8. The other is a free food market in Plaza Pública, and it lasts one Saturday.

Online listings often blur the two because both carry the word calabaza. The difference shapes how a weekend comes together. The farm sets entry by date and arrival time. The plaza asks nothing at the entrance. On Saturday, October 17, both are open at once.

Two organizers, one ingredient

The farm event is Calabazas Puerto Rico Fest, held at Finca Pastoreo on PR-694, Km 5.5, in Barrio Maguayo. Platea credits Jamie Ortiz, owner of Calabazas Puerto Rico, as its creator. This is its third season. It started in 2024, and Platea covered a second edition that ran October 5 through November 3, 2025.

The plaza event is Dorado Fresh: edición Festival de la Calabaza. It is the October edition of Dorado Fresh, a market organized by Mercado Local PR that runs on the third Saturday of each month. Its promotion calls it the second part of the Festival de la Calabaza, which follows an earlier pumpkin-themed edition. Metro Puerto Rico reports more than 40 food offerings made with pumpkin, including dishes, breads and desserts.

At the farm, you book a time slot

The 2026 season at Finca Pastoreo runs 18 days. The organizer lists more than 50 pumpkin varieties and a grand opening on October 2. The Calabazas PR Fest site asks visitors to pick a date and an arrival time, then pay online. The booking runs on arrival windows, so a family on a Saturday afternoon has a set start time.

Two weekends are already over as of today, October 11, the last day of the second. Four remain:

  • Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18
  • Friday, October 23 to Sunday, October 25
  • Friday, October 30 to Sunday, November 1
  • Friday, November 6 to Sunday, November 8

A todoPR event listing gives admission as $23 for adults, $16 for children ages 3 to 12 and $15 for seniors. Children up to age 2 get in free. That listing also shows a 5:30 p.m. close, while the organizer's own page posts 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Treat the later hour as the posted one and confirm when you book.

The ticket includes these activities:

  • Torre de Heno, a hay tower
  • The pumpkin patch
  • La Casa de Calabazas
  • Piscina de Maíz, a corn pool
  • A pumpkin to paint and take home
  • Swings and children's games
  • One free popcorn or cotton candy per paid ticket

Pumpkin Spice Soft Serve by Softy and roasted corn on the cob cost extra. Premium tickets include one of each. If you've seen a maze or "more than 100 varieties" mentioned elsewhere, those details don't appear in the organizer's 2026 list. Plan around the list above.

At the plaza, entry is free and the food is the event

Dorado Fresh is new. Platea's July calendar placed its first edition on Saturday, July 11, 2026. It billed food, farm products, a bakery, fashion, art, pet products and a DJ. TeleOnce identified Gali Galarza as its producer. By September, Platea's market guide listed it on the third Saturday of every month, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Plaza Pública, as part of Mercado Local's series of markets for local artisans, farmers, merchants and entrepreneurs.

So the Festival de la Calabaza is a regular market with a theme for the day. The farm sells an experience. The plaza gathers local food businesses and gives them one ingredient to work with. Admission is free. The market's listing says vendors take cash, ATH Móvil, debit and credit cards, and PayPal or bank transfer.

No vendor list has been published for the October 17 edition. A RutaMercado business directory names a few food businesses that list Dorado Fresh among their markets. These are Pa'l Gustito Sweets, an aguas frescas bar, Smashbar, which makes smash burgers, and Blessed Cookies & More, a gourmet bakery. The directory doesn't say who will be at this Saturday's pumpkin edition, so treat those names as the market's regulars, not a confirmed lineup.

Saturday, October 17: both in one day

The farm and the plaza have different hours, and that makes it possible to do both on the one Saturday they overlap. The plaza opens at 9:00 a.m. and the farm at 10:30 a.m. One way to plan the day:

  1. Start at Plaza Pública at 9:00 a.m. The 40-plus pumpkin dishes, breads and desserts are on offer from the opening hour, before the midday heat.
  2. Book a midday or early-afternoon arrival slot at Finca Pastoreo ahead of time. Entry is by date and time, and the 17th falls in the middle of the festival's run.
  3. Stay at the farm into the evening if you like. Finca Pastoreo's site lists wood-fired artisan pizza on Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 9 p.m. The page is undated and doesn't say how the pizza service runs during festival weekends, so check with the farm first.
  4. Or go back to the plaza before 6:00 p.m. The market stays open all day.

If you'd rather do one event per weekend, the farm runs three more weekends after the 17th. The plaza's pumpkin edition happens only that Saturday.

After November 8, both places carry on

Once the pumpkins are gone, both venues remain part of Dorado's year.

Finca Pastoreo is a working farm with a busy weekend schedule of its own. Its website lists Saturday guided farm tours at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., with hands-on participation when possible, and a grass maze it calls an investigation game. It also sells pasture-raised meats, eggs and grocery products, and it takes inquiries for private events. The farm's pages are undated, so confirm tour times and pizza hours before you go.

Dorado Fresh keeps to its third-Saturday schedule in the same plaza. It is listed for Saturday, November 21 and Saturday, December 19, both from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and both free. No themes have been announced for those months.

If you don't like crowds at the market, a quieter start nearby is El Colorista, a brunch and coffee spot at 314 Calle Méndez Vigo. Its most recent public post we could find dates from December 2025, so call to confirm hours.

For owners in Dorado for only part of the fall, the dates set the schedule. The farm season ends Sunday, November 8. The plaza's next two markets fall on November 21 and December 19.

If you're away for part of the season, Loggia Property Services can have your Dorado residence aired out, stocked and ready before a festival weekend, and looked after once you leave. Request your proposal and we'll prepare a tailored plan within 24 hours.
